Enlightening study in rural Orissa
Climate Solutions
The arrival of solar panels to Tinginaput, India has also made a big and direct difference to many aspects of the villagers lives. Thanks to the work of "barefoot "solar engineers - groups of local men and women trained to install and maintain low-cost solar panels thanks to a project supported by UK aid - six-year-old Timo and her friends can now do their homework after dark with the aid of electric light - wired up to the new, and green, 12 volt system. The UK's aid in India is focussed on the poorest people in three low income states - Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Orissa - reinforcing the deep, productive partnerships we have built over the last decade
Our discussion groups favoured authentic images over staged photos, which they saw as gimmicky or even manipulative
