Artificial reefs were installed in Mon Choisy, Mauritius, with two objectives:
1. Provide a habitat for fish after their natural habitat, the coral, died due to rise in sea temperatures.
2. Reduce soil erosion by breaking the force of the waves reaching the shores. This beach has been decreasing in size in recent years. Grass was planted on the beach to attempt to decrease soil erosion.
