The causes of the Syrian civil war are multiple and complex, but there is evidence that a powerful climate-linked drought forced people into cities creating the conditions of the initial uprising. Many Syrian Refugees travelled through Eastern Europe then Austria trying to reach Germany and other countries to seek Asylum. During the peak of this in the summer of 2015 thousands of Syrian refugees were stuck in Austria. The image demonstrates the human impacts of climate-linked droughts.
