There is a reason that politicians don hard hats for photo opportunities in factories and warehouses. Images like this – of people in safety gear working on infrastructure – are well-understood short-hand for 'hard work', and show the jobs required to bring new sustainable technologies into the world. Our research suggests that 'experts' interacting with new technologies are better than technologies on their own.
