Images of melting ice have become one of the 'classic' climate images, but here, large-scale waste connects human actions directly with these abstract, yet iconic environmental consequences. Most people have an aversion to waste and litter, and so its proximity to a World Heritage protected landscape is likely to evoke strong reactions.
