Our research indicated that connecting the impacts of climate change with identifiable individuals is powerful: this commuter is engaged in a daily activity that is familiar to many, but the illuminated light mask shows how the 'everyday' is being affected by the polluted air.
WHAT IT SHOWS: Personal trainer Ivan Tovilović wears a face mask lit up with current air quality readings on his morning commute to Belgrade’s Ada Ciganlija park. Part of the Unmask My City air pollution campaign, the mask changes colour dynamically according to local air pollution levels, with the colours matching Air Quality Index standards for PM2.5 particulates. Here it glows Red, showing pollution is more than five-times World Health Organization standards for healthy air, making it unhealthy for everyone and potentially serious health risk for sensitive groups.
