India's northern state of Rajasthan is heavily dependant on a strong agricultural sector, as it contributed 25.56% of its GDP in 2019-20. Therefore the local government set up the Rajasthan Horticulture Development Society as a means to support farmers across the state. One of the latest projects supported by the society has been the promotion of solar powered irrigation systems for farms, as a means of providing a cheap and clean energy alternative for watering crops. The society has also helped implement low tunnel agricultural techniques with a plastic covering in order to water the crops better and protect them from the often harsh local climate.
